It seems youve found the vaulted base youve been searching for. The keycard you found opens the giant door and it grinds to the side. A rush of stale air assults you as fresh air floods inside. You put on your gas mask (smart move) and walk in, but your bird companion seems reluctant.

You wander, investigating, finding everyone inside has been dead for years from an apparent oxygen cleaner malfunctioning and poisoning them all with carbon monoxide.

You get to the controllers floor and hack the computer, the screen is dim and caked in dust, and humming loudly, and you find the diaries of some of the vaults inhabitants. You read about a girl who cant build up the courage to talk to the boy she likes, you read about the head masters regrets over yelling at one of the technicians for breaking a non essential part, you read about an old man who very much wants to walk in the grass again and bring his grandson whod never seen it...

This is not the information you were looking for, but you feel hope vicariously through their ghosts. If i were a betting narrator, id say theres more to be learned here if you had the computer skills to find it. Maybe next time youll spend more time in the books and less cleaning your guns.

You leave the vault, stepping carefully again over their bodies. Rejoining your bird companion, you continue once again into the wastes.
